Welcome Spring. Welcome Wood.

I feel the whisper of Wood energy in the air. The birds are resonating their sound freely reminding our senses of the budding flowers and greening grasses. Folks are chatting about plans for the summer, deciding on the road to take and changes to make. I woke up on the Spring Equinox with a clearer vision for how to tend to my body-heart-mind. I am feeling drawn to stare off into the distance at anything green and soothe my weary student mind and eyes. The moss calls me to fondle it’s texture and feel the nuanced growth of nature. This reminds my body to embrace the awakening of spring in my fascia, cells and neurons. I see more clearly than ever of the intrinsic connection between body and earth. The interconnected synergy of all life in the body, soil, galaxy, and beyond could not be more tangible for me than in spring. It is a radical time in the existence of the human species. We are being called to plant conscious seeds and rise into a new way of being. Creating a new path and trajectory in our collective evolution.

In Chinese medicine the element of Wood and Liver and Gallbladder organs, energy (Qi) and meridians hones the energy of growth, change and pushing through. Just like a seedling unleashing their potential from a dark long winter underground.

This is a time to question what has been hiding away in the dark and ask what is ready to see new light?

How can we grow more fully into our true self and nature. This season is said to be Yang within Yin, meaning there is a tap root of Yin energy around us and the Yang energy is beginning to extricate itself from the soil to sway in the wind and trees. This energy is flowing in ever changing patterns and directions seeking to find its true course and way forward—just like us. Projects may feel ripe with excitement and upward and outward movement from the resting of hibernation. If not, do not fear, anchor into your Kidney’s and Water element for nourishment, to fuel the uprising. This is a great time to look at the places in our bodies and life that feel blocked and through the body uncoil creative expressions locked down deep by the constrictive conditioning of society. Bust out your greatest dance moves and rock your party dress to get your Qi flowing through your sinews (tendons and fascia), we need movement to express our creative brilliance.

This is a time for action, a time for rebirth of the dormant places that were under lock and key. If we have been holding on too hard, constraining our Liver Qi a build up can create anger, frustration or irritation. It is time to let go and let yourself wander, look at nature through the portals of your eyes and find all the green colours to saturate the longing of your soul. We want to resist the temptation of letting anger make us hard blocking the magnificent capacity we have to love ourselves and each other. A supple Liver energy can bend in the wind without breaking, like bamboo, and adapt to the fluid rhythm of life. This helps us to stay flexible but not wobbly, finding our own unique and ever changing balance point, fully rooted in truth and dignity. Engaged yet fluid. The Liver’s function is considered to be the grand architect for our vision of the future and center of strategic planning. The Gall Bladder is thought to be the center of our ability to make decisions and judge wisely from a place of inner knowing.

From the functions of the Liver and the Gall Bladder, we can plan, choose and hold our vision for the clear path forward. It is said that there are times we must appropriately assert ourselves forcefully; at other times, it is appropriate to yield, to change direction and embrace another plan or decision. When in harmony we know what our individual plan, aligned with the Divine plan, truly is. Therefore, when aligned with the Divine our plans will be for our highest good and the good of humanity. No obstacle will thwart us from our goals. Our life course will be pure and appropriate, strong, yet flexible. Truly, we are being asked to trust in our own internal compass and rely on the knowing of our internal body wisdom and true nature.
